Uisce Éireann is commencing a €10m upgrade to Glenary Water Treatment Plant to improve the security and resilience of the water supply in Clonmel, Co Tipperary.

What’s involved in the project:
This major investment will involve an upgrade to the treatment facilities at Glenary WTP including:
- Improvements to the treatment systems including the coagulation, clarification, and filtration processes.
- Installation of new chambers and mixers.
- An upgrade to the electrical installation and control and monitoring systems.
- Installation of 1.3km of new water mains.
What are the benefits of this project?
Once complete, this project will:
- Enhance the security and resilience of the water supply for homes and businesses in the area.
- Improve the quality and reliability of the water supply area of Clonmel.
- Address ongoing operational issues that result in interruptions to the water supply.
What are the next steps?
Ward and Burke are delivering the project on Uisce Éireann’s behalf and the project is expected to be complete in 2026. The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions. We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
