Farganstown Wastewater Project
Uisce Éireann Growth and Development Programme
Uisce Éireann is investing €22 million in new wastewater infrastructure at Farganstown to support future growth and development in the Navan area.
The works involve the construction of a new wastewater pumping station and 2.4km of sewer pipeline to cater for the future growth and development of the wider Navan area.
These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme and commenced in October 2025.
The project will increase the capacity of the wastewater network to enable the development of 1,600 new homes in the short term, while also allowing for significant further development in the longer term.
The section of works will take place at:
- Navan Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), located off Boyne Road near Farganstown;
- R153 Boyne Road, from the Navan WWTP to St Mary’s Cemetery, where the pipeline will run adjacent to the cemetery, crossing the railway line, terminating at a new pumping station to be constructed in private lands behind the cemetery.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities and are expected to be completed by late 2027.
What are the benefits of the works?
The benefits of these wastewater network works include:
- Supporting social and economic development – This project will facilitate social and economic growth, including planned residential development.
- Improving the wastewater infrastructure to facilitate future demand – This project will ensure the required capacity of the wastewater infrastructure to
support future development in the area. - Improving the wastewater network – This project will upgrade the wastewater network, increasing the capacity to deliver reliable, sustainable high-quality wastewater services.
Will customers be affected by the works?
Works at Navan Wastewater Treatment Plant are being carried out by night, with noise mitigation measures in place to minimise disruption to nearby residents.
Works on the R153 Boyne Road will commence in summer 2026 and will involve localised road closures. Local and emergency access will be maintained. Details of road closures and associated diversion routes will be agreed with the Local Authority and communicated locally in advance.
We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
