Ennistymon Water Mains Replacement

Uisce Éireann has carried out leakage reduction works in Ennistymon, Co. Clare to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.

The works involved the replacement of 550m of old and damaged water mains with new modern pipes. The programme which replaced the water mains in Ennistymon commenced mid-March. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The section of works took place along the L-1050 Sroohil, Ennistymon, Co. Clare.

The works also involved laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connected it to the customers’ water supply.

The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. and were completed by May 2025.

What were the benefits of the works?

The benefits of the service works included:

• Reliable Water Supply - Replaced the old water mains with new water mains and service connections which reduced the instances of bursts and water outages and ensured a reliable supply of water to customers in the area

• Reduced Leaks - Replacement of old water mains and service connections in poor condition which eliminated existing leaks and reduced the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.

• Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works delivered efficiencies including cost savings by providing improved water network operation that requires less maintenance in the future.
