Cor na Rón Water Mains Replacement

Uisce Éireann is carrying out leakage reduction works in Cor na Rón, Co. Galway to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage. 

The works involve the replacement of over 860 Meters of old and damaged water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Cor na Rón, Co. Galway will commence in mid-February 2026. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The section of works will take place over 2Nr. Local Roads: Boithrin na Ceartan - L-5205-0, L-5205-2 &, L-5205-4 and Boithrin Com Thaidhg - L-52046-0. There will be a diversion & 2-way lights in place.

The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply.  

The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans and are expected to be completed by Summer 2026. 
 

The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:

• A Reliable Water Supply – Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.
• Reduced Leaks – Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
• Improved Operation and Maintenance – These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management will be in place at this time, in the form of a a diversion and 2-way traffic lights. However, local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.

The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.

To facilitate safe construction: 

• A local road diversion will be in place while works are carried out on Boithrín na Ceartán.
• Two way traffic lights will be required at connection points on the R336.
