Claremorris Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade
Uisce Éireann has commenced upgrade works to the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Claremorris, County Mayo.
Uisce Éireann has commenced works to upgrade the Claremorris Wastewater Treatment Plant. This €17.9 million investment will benefit homes and businesses in Claremorris. These works are increasing the design capacity of the plant from 5333PE to 8800PE. When completed these works will improve the receiving waters to achieve biodiversity conservation and meet obligations under the Water Framework Directive.
When completed, this project will improve the capacity, allowing for current and future population growth and supporting the social and economic development of Claremorris.
Veolia Water Ireland is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

What is involved as part of this project?
The scope of works comprises the following:
- Replacement and upgrade of the inlet works
- Refurbishment of the aeration system
- Construction of a new final settlement tank
- Upgrade of the return activated sludge/waste activated sludge (RAS/WAS) pumping station
- The addition of a clarifier
- All infrastructure upgrades are to be implemented within the existing wastewater treatment plant boundary

- Enhance Claremorris’ amenity value due to a cleaner environment, and thus acting as a platform for social and economic development.

What are the next steps?
Works commenced on site in Autumn 2025. All works are within the site boundary, local public roads may experience an increase in construction related traffic throughout the construction phase. This project is expected to last 24 months.
