Borris-In-Ossory Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade
Uisce Éireann is upgrading the Borris-In-Ossory Wastewater Treatment Plant in Co. Laois to support future growth and development in the area and protect the local environment.
Uisce Éireann, has commenced works to upgrade the Borris-In-Ossory Wastewater Treatment Plant (WwTP) to cater for future growth and development in the area. Works commenced in March 2026.
This project is being delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s ongoing commitment to support existing and future development within local communities. The upgrade of the existing infrastructure will see an investment of over €4.1m which will benefit homes and businesses in Borris-In-Ossory, while also ensuring compliance with the current European Regulatory Standards, enabling growth and development and protecting the receiving waters and local environment.
What is involved in this project?
The project will involve the upgrading of the existing wastewater treatment plant, including:
- Installation of new tanks to store stormwater and treated sludge.
- Construction of a new treatment tank, along with upgrades and refurbishment of the existing tank.
- Installation of new equipment, including a flow splitting chamber, air blowers, and pumps to manage sludge and stormwater.
- Installation of a new control panel.
- Completion of all supporting works, including pipework, pumping systems, landscaping, and overall site improvements.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Conway Engineering and are expected to be completed by Autumn 2027.
