Ballymahon Water Mains Replacement
Uisce Éireann has completed works on the replacement of aged water mains along the N55 in Ballymahon to provide a more reliable water supply, reduce high levels of leakage, and support growth and development in the area.
The works involved the replacement of over 5.4 km of aged water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains along the N55 commenced in August 2025. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The section of works took place along the N55 between the Carrickedmond Church and Ballymahon mart starting near Geretys’ Farm Machinery heading towards the town. The works also involved laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply.
The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward & Burke and were completed by Spring 2026.

- Supporting growth – Upgrade of the existing water network to improve capacity and support social and economic growth.
- Improved Operation and Maintenance – Deliver efficiencies including cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.
Will customers be affected by the works?
Areas of work were limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management was in place during this time. We worked in close collaboration with the local authority to finalise plans, with efficiency and safety in focus. Local and emergency traffic was always maintained.
The works involved some short-term interruptions to the water supply. The project team ensured that customers were given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruption.
We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient. Works crews made every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works caused.
