Albert Road Growth and Development Programme

Uisce Éireann is upgrading the water infrastructure along Albert Road, as an extension of the Cork City South Quays Project. This will support future growth and development for Docklands Housing and will improve water quality.

The works involve the installation of approximately 700m of new modern pipes. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme and are expected to commence at the end of September 2025.
Works for this project will take place along Monahan Road/Victoria Road, and Hibernian Buildings/Monerea Terrace.

This project is being delivered to support existing and future developments within the community. It will improve the supply capacity of the existing water network in the area, improving performance and reducing demands on the current network. Uisce Éireann is working with Cork City Council to reduce the impact of these works on customers.

The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke and are expected to be completed by December 2025.

What are the benefits of the works?

The benefits of these water network works include:

  • Supporting social and economic development – This project will facilitate social and economic growth, including planned residential development.
  • Improving the water network – This project will upgrade the water network, increasing the capacity to deliver reliable, sustainable high-quality water services.
  • Improved Water Quality – Removing existing old cast iron and lead from the public water network and replacing them with new pipes will reduce instances of discolouration and the risk of contamination.
  • Providing a more resilient water supply – This project will improve the resilience of the water network, increasing connectivity to enable re-routing of water supply as required.

Will customers be affected by the works?

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise the impact on customers. To safely and efficiently deliver the project, traffic management will be in place in the form of a mixture of flagmen system, a road closure along Hibernian Buildings/Monerea Terrace, and nighttime works along Monahan Road/ Victoria Road. A signposted diversion will be in place. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.

A section of the works along the Monahan Road/ Victoria Road will be carried out at night-time during off peak usage hours. Hours of work will be 7pm to 7am Monday night to Friday morning each week, for a series of weeks over the course of the project, beginning on 29 September. The road closure will be in place along Hibernian Buildings/ Monerea Terrace from Monday to Friday’s, 06 October until 24 October 2025.

The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
