Water mains flushing taking place to safeguard water supply in North Clare

20 February 2024

Uisce Éireann will commence water mains flushing to improve the water supply for customers in North Clare in the coming days. The works come after crews successfully carried out repairs to a major burst impacting customers in Lahinch, Liscannor and Ennistymon with normal supply returning to customers.

While these water mains works are ongoing customers in Lahinch, Liscannor and Ennistymon and surrounding areas may experience water supply interruptions and/or water discolouration for short periods this week.

Following a large burst over the weekend sediment became dislodged and carried through the network causing some customers to experience temporary discoloured water. These essential flushing works are required to clear any remaining sediment from the distribution network and reduce the likelihood of future discolouration issues at the customer tap.

In thanking the public for their cooperation and patience Darragh Conneely, Operations Lead at Uisce Éireann explains: “We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause. The water supply should return to normal for the majority of customers a number of hours following flushing but it may take longer for the discolouration to clear in some isolated parts of the network. It is advisable to wait until the discolouration clears before drinking.”
