More reliable water supply on the way for Cranford community
The Cranford community is set to benefit from a more reliable water supply as a significant investment gets underway to replace more than 1km of ageing water mains. The works are part of Uisce Éireann's ongoing commitment to improving water services across Donegal, reducing leakage, and strengthening the resilience of the network for homes, farms, and businesses.
As part of the project, 1.1km of old and damaged water mains will be replaced with new modern pipes along the L12122/L1212 at Cool Upper, Cranford. New water service connections will also be installed from the public water main to customers' property boundaries.
Speaking about the investment, Patricia Lowry, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "Our customers in Cranford will see the benefits of this upgrade through a more reliable water supply and fewer disruptions caused by bursts and leaks. By replacing ageing sections of the network, we're helping to safeguard water supplies for the community while reducing the amount of treated drinking water lost through leakage.”
The project will be delivered by Farrans on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected by Spring 2027.
The works are being delivered as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme and demonstrate our continued commitment to improving water infrastructure across Donegal, helping to ensure communities like Cranford have reliable water services to support everyday life.
Work will be carried out in short sections to help minimise disruption for customers and the wider community. Traffic management will be required throughout the project, including a road closure on the L12122/L1212 at Cool Upper, Cranford. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
