Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann is set to commence major water mains upgrade works in Letterkenny to increase capacity in the local network, deliver a stronger and more reliable water supply and support housing development in the area.

The project will involve the installation of more than 800 metres of new water mains on Leck Road, along the L1114 between the N13 Ballybofey Road and the L1094 Cullion Road. The project is being delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s Accelerated Growth Programme and will provide capacity for future housing growth in the area.

These works will increase capacity within the local water network, helping to support future housing delivery and planned growth in Letterkenny. The investment forms part of Uisce Éireann’s ongoing programme to deliver essential water infrastructure in areas where it is needed most.

Works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans and are expected to be completed by late autumn 2026.

Speaking about the project, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, Patricia Lowry, said: “This project is an important step in supporting the continued growth of Letterkenny and ensuring the local network can meet future demand. The installation of new water mains on Leck Road will increase capacity and help provide the infrastructure needed to support new homes and sustainable development.

“Our teams are also on the ground in Letterkenny upgrading the network in the Woodlands area of the town, where we are replacing approximately 1.5km of water mains to further boost capacity and secure supply. We understand that works of this nature can be disruptive, and we would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and cooperation while we deliver these essential works.”

To safely facilitate the works on Leck Road, traffic management will be in place, including a road closure along the section of works. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

Works will take place from Monday to Friday between 10am and 7pm to minimise disruption, and the road will be open outside of these times. Work areas will be limited to short sections where possible.
