Key contract signed for critical upgrade to the drinking water supply serving three Kilkenny towns

€12 million investment to benefit over 1,200 customers

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Kilkenny County Council, is delighted to announce the signing of a new construction contract that will result in critical upgrades to the drinking water supply in Gowran, Goresbridge and Paulstown. The project will ensure the delivery of safe, clean drinking water to homes and businesses, improve water quality and support growth and development in the surrounding areas for years to come. 

The project, which represents a €12 million investment, involves the construction of a new water treatment plant, reservoir, rising mains and development of two abstraction boreholes to supplement the existing supply. The project will also improve the quality and security of water supply for the area and provide additional capacity for new connections to the scheme.

David Walsh Civil Engineering Ltd have been awarded the construction contract and will deliver the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann. Construction is due to begin in the coming months and is set to be completed in 2025. 

Commenting on importance of this project for the people of Kilkenny, Sean Twohig, Infrastructure Delivery Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: 

This project is an important milestone and represents a significant investment by Uisce Éireann in future-proofing and safeguarding the water supply for the people of Gowran, Goresbridge and Paulstown The new water treatment plant and associated infrastructure will ensure a safe, clean drinking water supply in the area for current and future generations.”

This project is just one of a number of critical projects being undertaken to safeguard the drinking water supply in Kilkenny.”
