Improving service and building resilience as water mains replacement to start in Adrigole
As part of Uisce Éireann’s commitment to strengthening the local network in Adrigole, we are progressing with the replacement of approximately 2.5km of ageing water mains. These pipes have been prone to bursts and supply interruptions, and their replacement marks an important step in delivering long-term reliability for the local community. Uisce Éireann acknowledges how difficult recent water supply interruptions have been for the community. We know how important a reliable water supply is, and we want to acknowledge the patience and understanding shown by the Adrigole community while we worked to get the project underway. Approximately 2.5km of ageing water mains will be replaced along the R574 from the Water Treatment Plant and Reservoir to Adrigole Bridge. The works are due to start the week of Monday, 27 April and expected to be completed by the end of July 2026.
Commenting on the project, Kevin Murphy, Portfolio Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: “The works in Adrigole form an important part of our national drive to reduce leakage and build a stronger, more resilient water network. By upgrading ageing infrastructure, we are helping to provide communities with a dependable water service that supports them every day.” “We know how important a reliable supply is and fully appreciate the real impact water disruptions have on families and businesses. This upgrade is being delivered with the community’s needs at its core — putting a lasting solution in place: helping to reduce future disruptions, improve service, and strengthen the network for many years to come.”
As part of our commitment to engage with the local community, Uisce Éireann held online briefings with West Cork elected representatives and the Adrigole Water Action Group. In addition, an in-person drop-in project information evening will be held on Thursday, 23 April from 6-8pm at the Caha Community Centre. This is a drop-in event, and attendees are welcome to arrive at any time to speak with the team on a one-to-one basis and ask project-related questions. The works will be carried out by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services for the people of Ireland. We remain committed to enabling communities to thrive by upgrading and developing critical infrastructure, providing safe and reliable drinking water, and protecting the environment.
