Essential water main upgrades to strengthen Delgany’s water supply

At Uisce Éireann, we are committed to providing a reliable, high-quality water supply for everyone in the community. To help make that happen, works are getting underway to replace ageing water mains in Delgany, Co Wicklow. 

From the Killincarrig Roundabout to Convent Road in Delgany Village, crews will install 930 metres of new, modern water mains along the R762 Church Road. The existing cast iron main was laid in 1940. The new pipes will strengthen the local network and improve water quality for homes and businesses. 

Welcoming the project, Nicola Butler, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said the upgrade will deliver lasting benefits for local customers. 

“Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. This investment will replace infrastructure that has served the community for more than 80 years with modern, resilient pipes. By improving water quality and strengthening the network, we are helping to build a more dependable water service for Delgany, now and for generations to come.” 

Works will begin from next week and will include installing new water service connections from the public water main on the road to customers’ property boundaries and linking them to the customers’ water supply. 

The project is being delivered by GMC Utilities Ltd. on behalf of Uisce Éireann with completion expected in early 2027.

Measures will be in place to keep disruption to a minimum and to protect the public and crews. We are doing everything we can to minimise that impact, including adjusting working times and arranging traffic management to be as seamless as possible. Temporary traffic management will be required during different phases of the works, including a Stop/Go system on Church Road and some localised road closures. Local and emergency access will be maintained, and traffic management signage will be in place.
