Friday, 10th December 2021 at 11AM – 3rd Storm Barra Update in Co. Kerry

  • 3 public water supplies and 1 group scheme on a Boil Water Notice
  • Areas in West Kerry with intermittent water supplies as power is being restored at plants

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Kerry County Council, advises customers of the following:

Due to inadequate disinfection caused power outages following Storm Barra, Boil Water Notices remain in place for customers supplied by the Aughacasla, Caragh Lake and Annascaul public water supplies. There is another Boil Water Notice on the Dawros group water scheme, which is being updated by Kerry County Council. For Uisce Éireann customers who wish to check if their property is on a Boil Water Notice, please go to the water quality section, enter the property’s Eircode, click ‘more details’ and you will then see if your property is on the Boil Water Notice.

Customers in Leataoibh, Ceann Trá, Baile an Fheirtéaraigh, Dún Chaoin and other areas in West Kerry may be experiencing intermittent water supplies as the ESB are working to restore power at the affected plants following outages caused by Storm Barra. Works are continuing to restore supply as quickly as possible to all affected areas.

Repairs to the burst watermain were completed in Castlegregory yesterday and all customers should have their normal supply restored by now.

Ian O'Mahony, Uisce Éireann, said, “Uisce Éireann and Kerry County Council continue to work to restore normal supply to impacted customers and we thank everyone for their patience.

“As the water supply returns, there may be some temporary discolouration of water and occasionally issues such as internal airlocks. For helpful tips on what to do following an outage, including clearing airlocks, visit our after an outage page.“

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Kerry County Council, advises customers in Castlecove, Castlegregory, Ceann Trá, Dún Chaoín, Portmagee and surrounding areas of disruption to supply today, Tuesday 7 December, due to ESB outages caused by Storm Barra. Customers in these areas may experience low water pressure and/or outages today, until the storm passes and crews can access plants safely to begin repair works.

Anna Brosnan, Uisce Éireann, said, “Uisce Éireann and Kerry County Council understand the inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience while we work to restore normal supply to impacted customers. During the storm, repair works are risk assessed and will be carried out as soon as it is safe to do so.

“We are also encountering difficulties due to power outages or deterioration in raw water quality at other sites across the county, which are running on storage from our treated water reservoirs. The severe weather continues to impact water supply schemes and further updates will be issued as the storm continues. Information on outages is also available on our website, www.water.ie, but for now, stay safe.”
