An appeal for water conservation as Garristown reservoir refills

31 May 2021

Uisce Éireann is working with Fingal County Council to restore normal water supply to customers in parts of Garristown. High demand for water over the weekend has led to a drop in treated drinking water levels in the Garristown reservoir.

In order to minimise the impact on customers Uisce Éireann and Fingal County Council have reconfigured the network in order to allow the Garristown reservoir to refill. Customers in the following areas may be impacted by lower than normal water pressure and in some instances may experience intermittent water outages; Ballymadun; Garristown; Tobergregan and surrounding areas. This supply disruption is expected to last until 9am, Tuesday 1 June.

Speaking about the refilling of the Garristown reservoir, Tselo Tlou, Uisce Éireann said, “Uisce Éireann is appealing to all customers to conserve water as the Garristown reservoir refills. While handwashing remains a priority, simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand on the supply. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to 6 litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering can rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use.

Uisce Éireann is working at this time, with our Local Authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services. Uisce Éireann would like to remind people to follow the HSE COVID-19 advice and ensure frequent handwashing.
