Twomileborris benefits from major investment in water supply
Uisce Éireann has completed a major water supply project in Twomileborris, delivering a more secure and resilient water supply for homes and businesses in the area.
The project involved the construction of more than 2.9km of new water main connecting Twomileborris to the Thurles Regional Water Supply Scheme, allowing the existing water treatment plant in the village to be decommissioned.
As part of the investment, a new booster pump was also constructed at Rathmanna, while 350 metres of water main on Mill Road in Thurles, between Lady’s Well and Archerstown, was upgraded to improve the reliability and stability of the ring water main serving Thurles town.
The completed works represent a significant investment in the local water network and will improve water supply security and resilience for customers in both Twomileborris and Thurles, while supporting future growth and development.
Speaking about the completion of the project, Uisce Éireann’s Barry Butler said: “We are delighted to have completed this important project for the communities of Twomileborris and Thurles. By connecting Twomileborris to the Thurles Regional Water Supply Scheme, we have strengthened the local water network and provided customers with a more secure and resilient water supply.
“The additional works carried out in Thurles will also improve the reliability of the network serving the town. This investment will benefit homes and businesses now and into the future, while providing the infrastructure needed to support the continued growth of the area.”
The project forms part of Uisce Éireann’s ongoing programme of works to rationalise small water supplies, improving the security and reliability of drinking water supplies across the country.
Twomileborris is the latest Tipperary community to benefit from this programme, with more than 10km of new water mains previously constructed to rationalise several small supplies serving customers in Littleton, Horse & Jockey, Upperchurch, Glengar and Cappawhite.
Mallwood Construction delivered the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
Uisce Éireann would like to thank the local community, businesses and road users for their patience and cooperation while these essential works were carried out.
