Where can I find the inside stop valve for my home?

Inside stop valves in homes are most commonly located under the kitchen sink but depending on the type or age of your home, the inside stop valve may be found in one of the following locations:

  • Inside a kitchen unit / cupboard / press.
  • Under the stairs.
  • Inside a utility room or garage.
  • Under a bathroom sink located on the ground floor of your home.
  • Inside a hot press / airing cupboard located on the ground floor of your home.
  • Inside a boiler house.
  • At the same location as the gas pipe enters the home.

If you have tried the above locations and are still having trouble locating the inside stop valve for your home, it’s a good idea to ask a neighbour where their inside stop valve is, as nearby homes usually have them in the same location. You can also check if any extensions, renovations or architectural changes have been completed in the property as this may help to determine where the kitchen or kitchen sink used to be located.

If you cannot locate the inside stop valve for your home or if you have issues operating it, you may wish to call a qualified plumber who will be able to help.
