Grand Canal Wastewater Rehabilitation Project
Irish Water has completed essential repair works on the Grand Canal Sewer which collapsed due to poor structural condition.
This project has repaired approximately 75 metres of sewer which partially collapsed due to poor structural condition in July 2019. This section of sewer crosses under the Grand Canal, the Luas line and Suir Road. The sewer is a key part of the wastewater infrastructure for Dublin. GMC Utilities Group delivered this project on behalf of Irish Water.
- Addressed the structural defects of the sewer.
- Protected the Grand Canal into the future.
- Improved the performance level of the sewer network.
- Prevented the sewer from collapsing further.
What was involved?
The section of the sewer which required repair is approximately 75 metres long. It begins at a chamber at Devoy Road and runs under the Grand Canal, the Luas line and Davitt Road to another chamber in the car park of Good Counsel GAA Club.
Irish Water would like to thank local residents and businesses for their cooperation during these essential works.
