Templemartin Water Mains Replacement

National Leakage Reduction Programme

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Cork County Council, has replaced ageing, problematic water mains in Templemartin Co. Cork to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.

The works involved the replacement of approximately 2km of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Templemartin Co. Cork commenced in late June. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The section of works commenced from Glebe House Cross Junction, and continue Northbound, via Templemartin Church, to its junction with the L6245 Road. Works will follow the Y-Junctionsoutheast along L6245 Road to its junction with the L6243 and continued northbound for approximately 1.2km towards Aghnamorroge Crossroads.

The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward & Burke and were completed by the end of September.

Traffic Management and Road Closures

In order to complete the works in a safe and efficient manner, three road closures are required with access limited to local residents and emergency traffic. The first road closure will take place from late-June to late-July 2022 along the L6244 Road from Glebe House Cross junction northbound to its junction with L6245.

The suggested diversion route is to continue northwest from Glebe House Cross, via Bandon to Crookstown Road (R590), to the first crossroads, and head eastbound, via L6043 to the yield sign and follow the road southeast.

A second road closure is required along the L6245 from mid to late-July from its junction with the L6244 to the first junction with L6243 Road for Aghnamorroge Crossroads.

The suggested diversion route for south-eastbound traffic, is continue southbound via L6244 to Glebe House Cross and take the R590 eastbound to the road for St. Patrick’s, Upton Services (L2235) continuing to its junction with L6245.

The third and final road closure will take place along the L6243 Road from late-July to late-August from its junction with the L6245 to Aghnamorroge Cross.

The suggested diversion route for northbound traffic is via L6245 northwest to the TJunction at Cloughduv East, and continue eastbound to Aghnamorroge Cross.

Will customers be affected by the works?

The works may involve some short-term water outages and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48-hours’ notice prior to any planned water outages.
