Roundwood Water Supply Project

Uisce Éireann in partnership with Wicklow County Council is installing a section of new water mains in Roundwood, Co. Wicklow to improve management of the water supply in the surrounding area.

The works involve the construction of approximately 4km of new modern water mains. Construction works on the new water mains in Roundwood, Co. Wicklow will commence on 22 November 2021 to be completed by the end of March 2022. These works are being carried out under Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The works will take place between Roundwood along the R764 to the Vartry Water Treatment Plant. The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke Construction.

These works will deliver reduction of risks associated with water quality, efficiencies including cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future as well as improved security of supply for our customers.

What are the benefits of the works?

The benefits of these leakage reduction works include:

• Reliable Water Supply – Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages ensuring a more reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.
• Improved Water Quality – Removing existing old cast iron and lead from the public water network and replacing them with new pipes will reduce the risk of contamination.
• Improved Operation and Maintenance – These works will deliver efficiencies including cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.

Will customers be affected by the works?

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management will be in place during this time in the form of a stop & go system. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.

The works may involve some short-term water outages and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours notice prior to any planned water outages.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
