Omeath Wastewater Network Upgrade

Uisce Éireann has completed wastewater upgrade works in Omeath, Co. Louth to improve water quality in Carlingford Lough.

Uisce Éireann has completed construction works to upgrade the wastewater network in Omeath, Co. Louth. The works were delivered as part of the Shared Waters Enhancement & Loughs Legacy (SWELL) project. A €35m EU-funded project which aims to improve the quality of water in Carlingford Lough and Lough Foyle through the upgrade of wastewater assets on both sides of the border.

Wastewater was being discharged untreated to Carlingford Lough from Omeath. Uisce Éireann upgraded the wastewater treatment plant, separate to the SWELL project, in order to treat this wastewater.

The SWELL project focuses on the need to upgrade the sewer network at Omeath to improve how we transport the wastewater to the plant so it can be treated.
BSG Civil Engineering Ltd is working on behalf of Uisce Éireann to deliver the project. The main construction works will commence in early August 2021 with completion expected in November 2021.

The SWELL project is being funded under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). This project has been supported by the European Union’s INTERREG VA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
