Uisce Éireann replacing ageing water mains in Briarhill area of Galway City to improve security of supply for local customers, improve pressure and reduce leakage.

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Galway City Council, will begin works to replace ageing water mains in the Briarhill area of Galway City. The works are scheduled to commence this week. These water mains renewal works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme.

Steps

  • Involve the decommissioning and replacement of over 650 metres of old and damaged asbestos concrete water mains
  • Existing mains will be replaced with high density polyethylene (plastic) pipes
  • This section of works will take place along the Monivea Road (R339)
  • Laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply
  • Expected to take approximately 10 weeks to complete
