Farranfore Water Mains Replacement

National Leakage Reduction Programme

Irish Water, in partnership with Kerry County Council, is replacing problematic water mains in Farranfore, Co. Kerry to improve security of supply, reduce high levels of leakage and improve water quality.

The works involve the replacement of approximately 1,000 metres of problematic trunk water mains with new 600mm ductile iron pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Farranfore will commence on 30 August 2021. These works are being carried out as part of Irish Water’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The section of works will take place on the N22 Killarney to Tralee Road. Works will commence on the south side of the level crossing at Farranfore Train station and proceed toward Killarney for approximately 1km. The works do not cross the railway tracks.

The works will be carried out on behalf of Irish Water by Ward and Burke Limited and are expected to be completed by the end of October 2021.

Working hours and traffic management

In order to minimise traffic impacts and complete the works in an efficient and safe manner the works will be carried out at night. The working hours are 7pm to 7am Monday evening to Friday morning for the duration of the works. One lane will be closed during these night-time working hours with a stop-go system in place for these hours.

The location of the works on the N22 Killarney – Tralee road will remain fully open during the day, from 7am to 7pm, throughout the works.

Will customers be affected by the works?

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.

The works may involve some short-term water shut offs and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water shut offs.
