Cornamona and Clonbur Water Main Replacement

National Leakage Reduction Programme

Uisce Éireann replacing ageing water mains in Cornamona and Clonbur, Co. Galway to improve security of supply for local customers improve water pressure and reduce leakage.

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Galway County Council, will begin works to upgrade existing old water mains and decommission problematic water mains in Cornamona and Clonbur, Co. Galway. The works are scheduled to commence on the week commencing 9 April 2018. These water mains improvements are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme.

The Leakage Reduction Programme will see over €500 million invested over four years to reduce leakage and remove problematic pipes from the public water network. These works will help to ensure that we have a clean, safe and reliable water supply now and into the future to support our growing population and economy.

Steps

  • Works will involve the upgrade of over 2 kilometres of old water mains and laying of new water service connections
  • Decommissioning of over 4.4 kilometres of old and damaged polyethylene (plastic) water mains in a number of locations
  • Works will commence on 9 April 2018 and are expected to take approximately 26 weeks to complete

  • These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future
