Celbridge Sewer Network Improvement Project

Irish Water Growth and Development Programme

Irish Water, in partnership with Kildare County Council & South Dublin County Council, is improving the sewer network in Celbridge along the Dublin Road to support economic and social development of the area.

Irish Water working in partnership with Kildare & South Dublin County Council is undertaking essential works to upgrade the wastewater network on the Dublin Road, Celbridge. These works will involve construction of almost 5km’s of new gravity and rising main sewers.

This project is being delivered to support future development. It will also improve the capacity of the existing sewers, improving performance and reducing the risk of sewer flooding in the area. Coffey Construction Limited is working on behalf of Irish Water to deliver this improvement project.

What is involved as part of this project?

The project site is located east of Celbridge stretching for approximately 5km along the Dublin Road from Celbridge town and into South County Dublin. The first site can be characterised as opening at Primrose Hill Pumping Station on the R405 beside the local National School. From there it rounds the corner on to the Dublin Road and travels east towards Dublin connecting to an existing section of rising sewer constructed by South Dublin County Council (SDCC) as part of the ongoing Celbridge Link Road works. Primrose Hill Pumping Station will also be upgraded as part of this project.

The second site related to the rising sewer works from the Celbridge Link Road along Tubber Lane Road. This is a short section of rising sewer that terminates at Tobermaclugg Pumping Station.

Programme of works

The works will commence in June 2022 and are expected to be completed within 15 months. This includes the upgrade works of the pumping station at Primrose Hill.

To minimise disruption during construction a phased approach will be taken. Areas of work will be limited to short sections to limit the impact on the local community. Where works are along the public road traffic management will be in place in the form of a stop/go traffic light system. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.

  • Cellbridge Link Road to Tobermaclugg PS - June 2022 – 1 month
  • Dublin Rd (Supervalu) to Shinkeen Bridge – Q2 2022 – 4 months (approx.)
  • Start of Shinkeen Bridge to New Celbridge Link Rd– Q3 2022 – 4 Months (approx.)
  • Primrose Hill PS Upgrade Construction Phasing – Q4 2022 – 5 months (approx.)

The final stages of delivery in 2023 will relate to Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Commissioning. We understand that this type of works can be inconvenient and work crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
