Castletownbere Water Mains Replacement

National Leakage Reduction Programme

Irish Water in partnership with Cork County Council is commencing phase 2 of the replacement of a problematic trunk water main between Ardgroom and Eyeries, Co.Cork to improve security of supply and reduce high levels of leakage.

The works, which are a continuation of previous works from Glenbeg Water Treatment Plant to the R571 Ardgroom Road, involve the replacement of approximately 3300 metres of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the section of water main will commence in late-November. These works are being carried out as part of Irish Water’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The section of works will take place along the R571 Ardgroom to Eyeries Road commencing approximately 800m west of Ardgroom village and proceeding to approximately 200m south of the quarry at Faunkill and the Woods, Eyeries.

The works will be carried out on behalf of Irish Water by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. and are expected to be completed by late February 2022.

Traffic Management

In order to complete the works in an efficient and safe manner traffic management will be in place at the relevant works location for the duration of works on that section.

Works will be completed in a phased manner and a stop-go system will be in place at the relevant section of the works.

Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.

Will customers be affected by the works?

The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these works cause.
