Leakage Reduction Programme

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Meath County Council, is improving the water network in Ashbourne to provide a more reliable water supply.

Following the successful completion of a new section of water mains along R135 from M2 roundabout to St John Woods Court we are now progressing with works to upgrade the next section of water main in Ashbourne. The works will commence on week commencing 23rd November 2020. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Benefits

  • Provision of a More Reliable Water Supply – This project will improve the resilience of the water network in Ashbourne, increasing connectivity to enable re-routing of water supply as required. It will also support continued growth within the community.

  • Improved Operation and Maintenance – These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.

Will customers be affected by the works?

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management may be in place during this time. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.

The works may involve some short-term water shut offs and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water shut offs.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.

Project details

The works will involve construction of approximately 1km of upgraded watermains:

The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Ltd and are expected to be completed in early 2022.

In order to minimise disruption a phased approach with areas of works limited to short sections will be adopted for the delivery of this project.

Works will commence on the R135 at the Castle Street junction. Works will then progress from the R135 along Castle Street towards Castle Street / Declan Street junction. Following completion of this section, works will re-commence on the R135 at St. John’sWood Court progressing towards Tudor Grove. Following this, works will extend to Tudor Grove between the R135 & the entrance to Huntsgrove.
