Ash Hill and Ballyfinnane Water Mains Replacement

National Leakage Reduction Programme

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Kerry County Council, has replaced problematic water mains in Ash Hill/Ballyfinane to improve security of supply, reduce high levels of leakage and improve water quality.

The works involved the replacement of over 4 kilometres of problematic trunk water mains with new modern ductile iron pipes. The next phase of the programme to replace the trunk water mains in the Ash Hill/Ballyfinane area will commence in early March. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Works took place from Moriarty’s Cross, Ballyfinane north on the L2022 toward Ash Hill (through Lisnataggle and Mount Nicholas) for approximately 4km.

The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke in conjunction with Kerry County Council and were be completed in July.

What are the benefits of the works?

The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:

  • A Reliable Water Supply – Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.
  • Reduced Leaks – Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.

Traffic Management and road closures

In order to complete the works in an efficient and safe manner, a road closure is required on the L2012 (Ashill to Moriarity’s Cross) from 7 March to 29 July 2022.

Diversions were in place duration of the works, will be signposted on approach and local access will be maintained.

Southbound traffic will take the right turn toward Bellfield Plant Nursery, the L2018 Garraun Road to Ballyfinane and continue on the Farranfore to Tralee Road to the opposite end of the road closure. Northbound traffic will take the Farranfore to Tralee Road to Ballyfinane, and the L2018 Garraun Road.

Will customers be affected by the works?

The works may involve some short-term water shut offs and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water shut offs.
