Wastewater treatment programme
Bringing adequate wastewater treatment to 43 urban areas across Ireland
Wastewater treatment for 43 areas
There are currently 43 urban areas in Ireland that lack any level of wastewater treatment. This project will bring adequate wastewater treatment facilities to all of these areas. This will result in a cleaner local environment and an ability for these towns to grow into the future.
The 43 sites are spread across 10 counties. These include Cork, Clare, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Louth, Mayo, Wexford and Wicklow.
The practice of discharging untreated wastewater to the marine is no longer acceptable and Irish Water intends to rectify this problem in conjunction with.
