Bringing adequate wastewater treatment to 43 urban areas across Ireland

Wastewater treatment for 43 areas

There are currently 43 urban areas in Ireland that lack any level of wastewater treatment. This project will bring adequate wastewater treatment facilities to all of these areas. This will result in a cleaner local environment and an ability for these towns to grow into the future.

Project locations

The 43 sites are spread across 10 counties. These include Cork, Clare, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Louth, Mayo, Wexford and Wicklow.

How it will work

All of these projects are being progressed through the relevant statutory processes. The timelines rely upon consenting authorities and are therefore subject to changes.

The practice of discharging untreated wastewater to the marine is no longer acceptable and Irish Water intends to rectify this problem in conjunction with.
