Doldrum Bay Sewerage Scheme
Irish Water is working to end the unacceptable practice of discharging untreated wastewater into Doldrum Bay.
Irish Water has carried out all the necessary studies to evaluate the options to end the historic discharge of wastewater from the properties in Doldrum Bay to the sea. Irish Water have identified a preferred option to achieve this which involves intercepting the existing flows from Doldrum Bay, via new sewers and two new pumping stations, into the existing sewer network in Howth and ultimately onwards to the Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Next Steps
-
Site Investigation is scheduled to commence from Tuesday 9 June, 2020.
-
The proposed works will require planning permission and Irish Water is currently preparing the application and progressing through the detailed design phase. However, before we can apply for this permission we will need to acquire the necessary land and wayleaves for the pipes and pumping stations. It may be necessary to carry out a Compulsory Purchase Order if these cannot be acquired by agreement, and this process is expected to be completed in 2021.
- The building, repair and upgrading of Irish Water’s water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, water and sewer network will require a multi-billion euro investment programme over many years. Irish Water is committed to improving wastewater treatment and capacity across the country.
