Works underway to restore water supply in Clonakilty and surrounding areas

16 December 2022

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

Uisce Éireann and Cork County Council are working to repair a burst water main causing supply disruptions to customers in Clonakilty and surrounding areas in Co Cork. Crews are on the ground working to restore water as quickly as possible to impacted customers.

Every effort is being made to maintain supply to as many customers as possible, however, the burst is impacting homes and businesses in Clonakilty town, Santry South, Santry North, Roosmore, Carrigafadda, Gortroe, Tullig, Santry East, Bealad, Mallatallavana, Lisavaird, Reenascreena, Cahermore, Froe, Ardagh and Bog Road, Rosscarbery, and surrounding areas.

Repairs are expected to be complete by 5pm today. Given the large area impacted it will take some time for the network and reservoirs to refill. The majority of customers should have their supply restored by late this evening, however some customers, particularly at higher elevations, may be impacted longer by reduced water pressure/intermittent supply, while the reservoir refills to a sufficient level to meet demand.

Speaking about the repair works Uisce Éireann’s Operations Lead Niall O’Riordan said: “The repairs are being conducted as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to the community and restore water for all customers.  We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate their patience as we work to repair the burst and return the water supply.

Speaking on the essential need to conserve water especially at this time, Niall added: “Water supplies are under increased pressure following a spate of burst pipes caused by the recent freezing temperatures. We are appealing to customers, now more than ever, to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Further information on water conservation is available at the water conservation section of this website.”
