Works to improve water supply for consumers in Ballyreehan

Uisce Éireann today announced the schedule of works to replace ageing, problematic water mains in the locality of Ballyreehan in Lixnaw. Works are due to begin in mid-September. The works undertaken in partnership with Kerry County Council will see the replacement of approximately 280 metres of old water mains with new polyethylene pipes and will bring to an end the frequent bursts and outages experienced by customers. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme and will see a significant improvement to the water supply in the area.

Speaking about the project, Uisce Éireann's Steven Blennerhassett said;

"The section of works will take place on the L1027, Ballyreehan Road and will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply."

Traffic management will be in place during this time however local and emergency traffic will always be maintained. Diversions for through traffic will be signposted on approach. The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions. We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.

Outlining the benefits the works would bring the community, Steven added;

"Replacing these old and problematic pipes in Ballyreehan will reduce the drinking water lost to leakage and will bring an all-round improvement to water quality for the local community. It will also deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future."
