Works taking place to restore water supply in Lauragh

12 December 2022

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

Overnight restriction also necessary for customers in Kenmare town

Uisce Éireann is working with Kerry County Council to restore normal water supply to customers following a burst water main in Lauragh.

Crews are on the ground working to restore water as quickly as possible to impacted customers. As the works progress, customers in Lauragh and surrounding areas will be impacted by reduced water pressure and water outages until tomorrow morning.

Operations Lead for Uisce Éireann, Oliver Harney said: “Uisce Éireann would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused when outages occur and thanks customers for their patience. We are working as quickly as possible to restore normal water supply for the people of Lauragh.”

Due to a noticeable increase in demand, over-night restrictions are also required to help water levels in the Kenmare town area recover. This is necessary to maintain supply for homes and businesses during the day. The water supply will be restricted to some areas overnight from 10pm tonight, Monday 12 December, until early tomorrow morning. During this time, customers in Kenmare town may experience reduced water pressure and/or no water. It can take two to three hours following a restriction for the network to refill and normal supply to be fully restored to all areas.

Speaking about the restriction, Oliver Harney, Uisce Éireann said: “Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience this overnight restriction may cause, however, it is essential to ensure a sufficient water supply is available for residents and businesses during the day for hygiene and other essential purposes.

Speaking on the essential need to conserve water especially at this time, Oliver added: “We are appealing to customers to continue with every effort to conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Further information is available on our water conservation section.”
