14 January 2021

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Mayo County Council, is progressing with essential works to enhance the drinking water supply for homes and businesses in Foxford. The works are being carried out in accordance with the current Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions.

The works involve upgrading the water treatment processes at the plant, which will significantly improve the quality and security of water supply to residents and businesses. These upgrades are underway and are due to be complete in quarter two of this year.

Explaining further what’s involved Martin Temple, Uisce Éireann said: “We are delighted to be working with Mayo County Council to deliver this essential upgrade to the Foxford Water Treatment Plant. The upgrade involves the installation of new water treatment processes including sand filters as well as the installation of pH adjustment and correction systems and associated equipment.

Customers supplied by this scheme will enjoy enhanced water quality and a more reliable supply once this work has been completed.

Uisce Éireann continues to work at this time with our Local Authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services. We would like to remind the public to continue to adhere to public health advice on hand washing and hygiene regarding Covid-19.
