Works progressing in Maynooth to safeguard the water supply for the local community
Works involve the construction of 1km of new watermains
Irish Water, working in partnership with Kildare County Council, is progressing with works to improve the water network in Maynooth Town and safeguard the water supply for homes and businesses in the area.
The works involve the construction of 1km of new watermains along Parson Street and Mill Street in Maynooth town. The works are scheduled to be completed in July 2020. To minimise disruption, the work will be completed in phases and traffic management will be in place. In order to safely facilitate the works temporary road closures will be necessary. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted. Emergency access and local access will be maintained at all times. A road closure on Parson Street from the University entrance to Meadowbrook Lawns will be in place from 18 May 2020 to 2 June 2020. The works are being carried out on behalf of Irish Water by Ward and Burke Ltd. These works will be carried out in line with stringent Covid-19 measures.
Short section works to limit impact
Irish Water has planned the works in short sections in order to limit the impact on customers. During these essential works any necessary planned outages to successfully deliver the project will take place nightly from 12am to 6am to minimise any impact on customers.
Irish Water is working at this time, with our Local Authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services. Irish Water would like to remind people to follow the HSE COVID-19 advice and ensure frequent handwashing.
Speaking about the project, Joe Carroll, Regional Lead, Irish Water said “The construction of new watermains in Maynooth is vital to ensure a more secure water supply to home and businesses in the town. These works form part of a significant investment by Irish Water to safeguard the water supply. Irish Water understands this type of work can be inconvenient and we will ensure our work crews make every effort to minimise any disruption these works may cause.”
National Leakage Reduction Programme
The work is part of Irish Water’s national Leakage Reduction Programme as part of which over €500 million is being invested to reduce the level of leakage across the country by fixing and replacing aging water mains. This will ensure a safe, reliable water supply which is vital for our health, our environment and our growing population and economy.
Residents and businesses in the areas of the works have been notified.
