Works progress to safeguard supply to homes and businesses in Dublin 8

02 November 2021

Uisce Éireann working in partnership with Dublin City Council is carrying out essential works on the watermains in Thomas Court, Dublin 8. The works involve the installation of a number of new valves and flow meters that will improve our control of the network to manage pressure and will help to identify leaks on the network so that they can be prioritised for repair.

In order to safely facilitate these works a traffic management plan is in place. A road closure will be in place on Thomas Street starting on Monday 8 November. The road closure is expected to remain in place for 3 weeks.

Diversions will be in place, while local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

In advance of the works commencing on Monday 8 November, investigative works will be required on the watermains in Thomas Court from 8am to 6pm on Thursday 4 November. Whilst every effort will be made to minimise the impact of these works, some customers in the following locations may be impacted by low water pressure and outages while the works are underway on Thursday; Thomas Street, Hanbury Lane, School Street, Meath Place, Meath Street, Liberty Square, Thomas Court and surrounding areas in Dublin 8. Customers directly impacted by these works have been notified directly.

Following the completion of the works it may take a number of hours for normal water supply to return to all impacted properties.

Speaking about the works, Matthew Thomson, Uisce Éireann said, “We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and working in partnership with Dublin City Council we will make every effort to minimise any disruption that these necessary works may cause. The delivery of this work is essential and will help to safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses in the city ensuring a safer more sustainable water supply into the future.
