Works progress to improve Carrick-On-Suir water supply

26 March 2021

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Tipperary County Council, is installing new water mains in Carrick-on-Suir, to safeguard the local water supply, reduce high levels of leakage and improve water quality.

The works, which are due to get underway on Monday, March 29, involve the installation of 600 metres of new water mains, which will enable the decommissioning of problematic old main in the area.

This will result in a more secure and reliable supply for local customers, with significantly fewer bursts and supply disruptions. It will also eliminate leaks in this part of the water network, improve water quality and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.

Gerry O’Donnell, Uisce Éireann’s Regional Delivery Lead, said, “Safeguarding the water supply by replacing old pipes and tackling leakage is a top priority for Uisce Éireann. This essential work in Carrick-on-Suir will bring big improvements to the local water supply, benefiting residents and businesses in the area for many years to come. This is part of Uisce Éireann’s €500 million National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Works are due to be undertaken in three locations:

  • Junction of Pill Road and Willow Vale, opposite St Brigid's General Hospital
  • Junction of Pill Road and Mount Saint Nicholas
  • Junction of New Street and the N24 opposite the Garda Station

The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Shareridge Ltd and are expected to be completed within six weeks, with approximately two weeks at each location. Temporary traffic lights will be in place for duration of works on the Pill Road/N24 and Willow Vale junction, while Stop-Go traffic management will be in place at the Pill Road/N24 Mount Saint Nicholas junction and at the junction of New Street and the Pill Road/N24 while works are taking place at these locations.

The works will also involve some short-term disruption to supply.

Residents and businesses in the areas to benefit from the planned improvements have been notified directly and customers can phone Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 if they have any questions about the project.

Uisce Éireann regrets any inconvenience these necessary water network improvements may cause. Details of any supply interruptions associated with this project will be updated regularly on the Supply and Service Updates section of our website.

Uisce Éireann is working at this time, with our Local Authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services.
