Working to restore water supply to the Irishtown area of New Ross following burst pipe
Surrounding areas of Irishtown may experience low pressure
Irish Water and Wexford County Council are working to restore water supply to the Irishtown and Towergrove area of New Ross which has been affected by multiple bursts in the pipe network. Areas affected include Longstone Drive, Convent Court, Irishtown Heights and Castlemoyle. Properties in some surrounding areas of Irishtown may also be experiencing lower than normal pressure. It is likely that the Bosheen Road area will also be affected by an outage (Bosheen Road to the top of Wexford Street).
Repair crews have been on site over recent days
Repair crews have been on site over recent days and will continue their work into the weekend to restore water supply as quickly as possible. One significant leak has been detected and repaired and crews are currently working to locate and repair additional bursts in the network. It is hoped that water supply can be restored by tomorrow (Saturday) morning. In the meantime alternative water supplies are in place and will remain until the water supply is fully restored.
Niall O’Riordan, Operations Lead for Wexford
“We recognise the disruption this issue has caused to local residents. We apologise for the inconvenience and would like assure our customers that we are working as a matter of priority to restore a normal water supply as quickly as possible.”
Alternative Water Supplies are available in the following locations:
- Tower Grove Estate
- Convent Court Estate
We make every effort to ensure that the alternative drinking water supply provided, including the tanker / bowser, and dispensing tap, are adequately disinfected. However, as it is not practical to provide sterilised containers for the public to transport drinking water from the tanker to their homes, we cannot guarantee that any containers used by the public do not negatively impact or contaminate the drinking water.
Recommended to boil water from tanker
Therefore, as a precautionary measure, it is recommended that any members of the public who obtain water from a tanker or bowser boil the water before use.
Updates on the progress of the repair will be posted to the Supply and Service Updates section of our website or by calling our 24-hour customer care line at 1850 278 278.
