Working to repair major water leak in Galway City
Carrying out repairs to a major water leak on the Headford Road
Irish Water, working in partnership with Galway City Council, is carrying out repairs to a major water leak on the Headford Road. Repairs are expected to take all day and traffic management is in place. People using this route are advised that long traffic delays are expected this afternoon and if possible alternative routes should be taken.
Water disruptions in the following areas
Dun an Coiribe/Gort na Coiribe Housing, Dunnes Stores and Terryland Retail Park, Prospect Hill, and Bohermore.
Water has been diverted to maintain supply to the area
Since the leak was detected yesterday (Sunday), water has been diverted from other areas of the city to maintain a supply to the Headford Road area. Customers may experience water outages or lower than normal pressure levels in this area while repairs are ongoing and for a while afterwards while water returns to the network.
We would like to apologise to customers affected by this unplanned leak and thank them for their patience while these emergency repair works are ongoing.
“Irish Water is committed to safeguarding the water supply in Galway City and we will work closely with Galway City Council to ensure this leak is fixed as quickly as possible. Traffic management is currently in place on the Headford Road and will remain there until these emergency works have been completed.”
