Construction works being undertaken of over 2km of new water mains

Irish Water working in partnership with Dublin City Council is progressing with watermain improvement work on the South Circular Road in Dublin 8. The works being undertaken are part of the construction of over 2 kilometres of new water mains safeguarding the water supply to homes and businesses in the area.

Areas affected

These works may cause disruption to the water supply on Saturday 20 June from 9am until 5pm. Irish Water wish to advise customers the following parts of Dublin 8 that they may experience lower than normal water pressure while these essential works are carried out;

  • Glenmalure Park; South Circular Road; Saint Anthony's Road; Reuben Walk; Church Avenue South; Carrick Terrace;
  • Haroldville Avenue; Reuben Street; Reuben Avenue; Herberton Road; Donore Avenue; Dolphin House; New Ireland Road;
  • Fingal Street; Mounthshannon Road; Brown Street South; Maxwell Street; Eugene Street; Cameron Street; Emerald Terrace;
  • Huxley Crescent; Brickfield Lane; Jame's Walk; Mallin Avenue; Lourdes Road; Our Lady's Road; Marrowbone Lane;
  • Loretto Road; Crumlin Road and surrounding areas in Dublin 8. 

There are 40 properties that will experience water outages during the works and they will be contacted directly by Irish Water. Following these improvement works water supply may take 2-3 hours to return as water refills the network.

Works to safeguard supply

Speaking about the project, Matt Thomson, Irish Water said “We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and will ensure our work crews make every effort to minimise any disruption these works may cause. We would like to thank the local community, businesses, homeowners and commuters for their patience and cooperation while we deliver this vital water network improvement project safeguarding the water supply for homes and businesses in the South Circular Road area the city.”

Irish Water is working at this time, with our Local Authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services. Irish Water would like to remind people to follow the HSE COVID-19 advice and ensure frequent handwashing.

Irish Water is working proactively with our delivery partners and as part of a multi-agency working group to ensure that our construction works are carried out in a controlled and safe manner, in keeping with Government and HSE guidelines to protect workers, their families and the broader community.
