Restrictions needed to allow water levels to continue to recover

Irish Water and Westmeath County Council wish to advise customers in Athlone and the surrounding areas that an overnight water restriction for parts of the town is necessary, due to operational issues at the Water Treatment Plant. The issues have now been addressed but water levels in the Annagh reservoir have dropped as a result.

The overnight restriction is in order to allow for recovery of levels in the reservoir and to ensure an adequate quantity of water is available to supply industries, schools, residences and commercial activities during business hours.

8pm tonight Tuesday April 9th until 6am tomorrow Wednesday April 10th

The restriction will be in place from 8pm tonight Tuesday April 9th until 6am tomorrow Wednesday April 10th, and will impact customers in Athlone Town, Baylin, Mount Temple, The Ories, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Blyry, Killyon Hill, Bonavalley, Athlone and surrounds in Co. Westmeath.

We have mobilised water tankers which are now available at the following locations:

  • The Viewing Point, Glasson, Ballykeeran
  • Fardrum Cross

Supply expected to return between 6am and 8am

The water supply will restore to customers as the network refills. It can take a number of hours for the water to restore to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network once the water supply is turned back on. We expect that supply will return to customers between 6am and 8am as the water returns to the network.
