Water restrictions in Athlone due to mechanical failure at water treatment plant
Irish Water and Westmeath County Council wish to advise customers in Athlone and the surrounding areas that an overnight water restriction is necessary tonight in order following a mechanical breakdown at the plant late this evening.
In order to protect the water levels in Annagh reservoir this water restriction is unavoidable. The restriction will be in place from 10pm tonight, Tuesday, 10 December until 6am tomorrow, Wednesday, 11 December, which will impact customers in Athlone Town, Baylin, Mount Temple, The Ories, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Blyry, Killyon Hill, Bonavalley and surrounding areas.
This necessary night-time restriction is being put in place to ensure customers have a water supply to their homes and businesses during the daytime. This action is being taken to ensure that there is an adequate quantity of water available to supply industries, schools, residences and commercial activities during business hours.
The water supply will restore to customers as the network refills. It can take a number of hours for the water to restore to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network once the water supply is turned back on. We expect that supply will return to customers between 6 am and 8am as the water returns to the network.
