Water mains replacement in Castlerea

30 September 2021

Customers in Castlerea can look forward to a more reliable water supply

Roscommon homes and businesses can look forward to a more reliable water supply with water mains replacement works due to begin in the coming days.

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Roscommon County Council, will replace almost 300 metres of old water mains in Willsbrook, Castlerea, an area prone to a high level of leakage, with new, high density polyethylene (plastic) pipes.

The works along the N60 will not only prevent the loss of treated water underground but it will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and ensure a reliable water supply into the future.

New water service connections, from the public water main to customers’ boundaries, will be installed and where the existing service connections outside boundaries are lead, they too will be replaced.

Outlining the benefits of the works, Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead, Declan Cawley said: “There will be an immediate impact for customers with an improvement to the water supply due to reduced leakage rates and unplanned outages when bursts occur. Securing water supply in Co Roscommon remains a vital focus for Uisce Éireann and these essential works will help strengthen and reinforce the water network”.

Farrans Construction Ltd, working on behalf of Uisce Éireann, will carry out the works, which are due to be completed in November.

In order to progress the works, short term outages may be required but to minimise impact on customers, notice of outages will be given and areas of work will be limited to short sections.

Uisce Éireann understands this type of work can be inconvenient and will ensure our work crews make every effort to minimise any disruption these works may cause,” said Mr Cawley.
