Works will ensure a more secure and reliable water supply

Irish Water is carrying out water mains improvement works to ensure a more secure and reliable water supply in the Mahon, Ballintemple, Blackrock, Beaumont and the Monahan Road/Centre Park Road/Marina areas. As part of the works being delivered in the area, there may be disruption to water supply from 11.30pm on Wednesday 11 September to 4am on Thursday 12 September 2019.

Water may take 2-3 hours to return as network refills

During these essential planned works, homes and businesses in the above areas area may be impacted by reduced water pressure and water outages. Following these improvement works water supply may take 2-3 hours to return as water refills the network.

Current water main infrastructure in the Skehard Road area does not allow isolation from the primary trunk main to be undertaken and therefore to allow new water mains to be connected to the network a greater area shutdown is required.

Irish Water understands this type of work can be inconvenient and will ensure our work crews make every effort to minimise any disruption these works may cause.

Until full supply is resumed Irish Water advises customers to:

  • Switch off any gas, oil or electrical appliances that you use to heat your water such as an immersion heater
  • Not use central heating systems while the water is off
  • Avoid flushing the toilet

When the water is restored it is advisable to:

  • Slowly run the cold water kitchen tap until the water clears
  • Do not use your washing machine, dishwasher, shower or similar appliance until the water clears.

Customers can call our customer care helpline on 1850 278 278 for any questions in relation to the works.

Leakage Reduction Programme

These works are being carried out as part of Irish Water’s national Leakage Reduction Programme which will, over the next 4 years, see €500 million invested to reduce the level of leakage across the country by fixing and replacing ageing water mains. This will ensure a safe, reliable water supply which is vital for our health, our environment and our growing population and economy.
