Upgrades to improve water supply and reduce leakage in Trim

Works to eliminate existing leaks and frequents bursts on the Newtown Road, Trim, Co. Meath will soon begin as Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Meath County Council, are set to replace approximately 1000 meters of problematic water mains in order to improve the security of supply to homes and businesses in the area and reduce high levels of leakage. These essential works are being delivered in adherence with current HSE and government COVID-19 advice.

The mains will be replaced with high density polyethylene (plastic) pipes along Rathnally Road and Newtown Road. The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customer’s water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these will be replaced as part of this improvement work.

Speaking about the works, Matt Thomson, Uisce Éireann said, “Replacing these old, damaged pipes will reduce the instances of bursts, water outages and amount of clean drinking water lost to leakage. The installation of the new water mains and service connections will also help conserve this precious resource and improve levels of service for homes and businesses in the area. These improvements to the water network are essential in providing a safe, secure and reliable water supply, now and into the future.”

Uisce Éireann and Meath County Council will make every effort to maintain normal supply to all properties throughout the works however some short-term water shut offs may be necessary and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hour notice prior to any planned water shut offs. To facilitate the safe delivery of these works, some traffic management will be in place, however, local and emergency access will be maintained at all times. Uisce Éireann and Meath County Council regret any inconvenience these improvement works may cause. The works are being carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities and are expected to be completed by June 2021.
