Upgrade of water supply will have big benefits for Gowran, Goresbridge and Paulstown
Irish Water, in partnership with Kilkenny County Council, is moving forward with plans to improve the water supply for customers in Gowran, Goresbridge and Paulstown.
1,225 residential and business properties to benefit from these works
The upgrade of the Gowran Regional Water Supply Scheme will have significant benefits for the existing 1,225 residential and business properties in these areas by ensuring a safe, secure and reliable drinking water supply.
In addition to providing a better quality water supply, this project will also increase the volume of water available for supply in the area, providing the platform for future growth and development.
“We are very pleased to be progressing what is an essential project for Gowran, Goresbridge and Paulstown. This much-needed upgrade will ensure that the people living and working in these communities will have the assurance that their water supply will be safe and capable of meeting all their needs now and into the future,” said Lisa Cogan, Irish Water’s regional infrastructure lead.
Construction of a new water treatment plant
The existing infrastructure across the Gowran Regional Water Supply Scheme is not capable of meeting the current or future water needs of the Gowran, Goresbridge and Paulstown areas.
This project will include the development of two new borehole sources, the construction of a new water treatment plant, a storage reservoir and all associated pipework. When the work is completed the existing plant, which is no longer fit for purpose, will be decommissioned.
Irish Water recently submitted a notice of a Compulsory Purchase Order to acquire the lands needed for this upgrade. This is an important step in progressing this essential project.
€5.5 billion investment in capital spending on drinking water and wastewater quality
This project forms part of Irish Water’s investment plan. Works have been prioritised to address the most critical issues across the country in line with commitments outlined in Irish Water’s Business Plan.
Delivery of the business plan will involve a €5.5 billion investment in capital spending on drinking water and wastewater quality and capacity and new infrastructure up to 2021.
