Trim community encouraged to conserve water to help reservoir levels recover

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Meath County Council, advise customers in Trim and surrounding areas that an essential night-time water conservation restriction is required tonight to help Brayhill Reservoir levels recover. 

To help reservoir levels recover and maintain a sufficient water supply to homes and businesses during normal working hours, customers may experience reduced water pressure from 10pm tonight, Thursday 23 February until 6am tomorrow morning. Customers in the following areas may be affected: Trim, Knightsbrook, Scurlockstown; Effernock, Carberstown, Blackfriary, Crowpark, Clonbun, Rathmolyon, and surrounding areas. It can take two to three hours following low pressure for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas as water refills the network. 

Securing the water supply in Trim is a top priority for Uisce Éireann who is also progressing a major project to upgrade and modernise Trim Water Treatment Plant to increase its capacity, provide increased resilience, and secure the water supply in Trim for the future. In addition, as part of the Leakage Reduction Programme, work continues on the replacement of old and problematic water mains in the town to reduce disruption from bursts and outages which have been affecting homes and businesses.  

Speaking about the restriction, Michael Cunniffe, Uisce Éireann said: “Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience the conservation restriction may cause. The night-time conservation restriction is necessary to ensure a daytime water supply is available for residents and businesses for hygiene and other essential purposes. During the daytime, we are appealing to customers to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible.
