Temporary shut down at Ballyragget Water Treatment Plant in Co. Kilkenny
Recent flooding has resulted in water quality issues at the Ballyragget Water Treatment Plant resulting in the need to shut down the plant. The water levels in the storage reservoir will be depleted by midday today impacting approximately 1,500 customers. A tanker is being deployed to the Glenvale car park to provide an alternative water supply and will remain in place until the supply is restored to all customers (or at an alternative location which will be publicised). Customers must bring their own water containers to collect water from the tanker and all water from the tanker must be boiled before use for drinking, cooking, preparing food, making ice and brushing teeth.
It may take a number of days for the water quality to improve allowing production to re-commence at the plant. The situation will be reviewed continuously as ongoing sampling continues.
