Work will take place from Monday 10 July to Friday 21 July 2017

Irish Water is carrying out site investigation work on the sewer network from Monday 10 July to Friday 21 July in Drogheda. The site investigation work will enable Irish Water to complete the detailed design requirements to upgrade the sewer network. The scope of the site investigation work includes a combination of open trenches, bore holes and trial pits on Greenhills Road, Shop Street, Constitution Hill, Patrickswell Lane, Linnen Hall Street, Caramelite Cottages and Loughboy West. Once the proposed project to upgrade the network is complete it will reduce the volume and frequency of flooding in the areas and ensure the network complies with environmental requirements. The upgrade works will also improve the capacity of the network to help facilitate future development in the area.

Irish Water has written to all residents and business owners to advise them of the work that is taking place. Road opening licences have been granted by Louth County Council for the work to take place. During the site investigation works, traffic management measures will be in place. Road closures will take place on Patrickswell Lane and Linnen Hall Street on Monday, 17 July from 8am to 5pm. Local access will be maintained to Abbey Lane. A road closure will also take place on Tuesday 18 July from 7pm to 11pm on Shop Street. Every effort will be taken to minimise disruption to residents and road users. It is not expected that the site investigation works will involve interruption to water supply.

Commenting on the works Olive Marshall, Capital Programmes Lead, East and Midlands Region, said “Irish Water thanks residents and businesses in Drogheda for their cooperation while we carry out these site investigation works. These works will provide the project team with a detailed picture of the sewer network which will feed into the designs to upgrade the network. Once the proposed upgrade to the network is complete it will remove the risk of sewer flooding in the area and support future development ”.
